In addition to the core activities of the unit (student learning support, staff development support, tutor training, and orientation programs), the EDU will be focusing on the following areas in 2007-8.

CATEI implementation

The EDU has been coordinating the full implementation of the CATEI process in the Australian School of Business.  In support of this project, information about CATEI and the CATEI process has been incorporated into the Australian School of Business Learning and Teaching website.

Enabling Skills - Information Literacy

Learning and Teaching Awards and Grants Scheme

The Australian School of Business, through the EDU, is currently developing a comprehensive Learning and Teaching Awards and Grants Scheme. The aim of this scheme is to enhance the teaching and learning experiences and outcomes for staff and students in the ASB. It is an opportunity for the ASB to acknowledge outstanding achievement and provide support for activities that foster an improved learning experience/outcomes for students.  The scheme also provides a platform for ongoing dialogue and exchange of information and ideas on learning and teaching between staff and between disciplines.

Sessional Staff support

There are three main areas in which the EDU will be involved with ongoing support and development for sessional staff.

Principles of Tutoring Program - This compulsory program will continue to be offered;

Information Booklet/folder - An information booklet/ folder for all sessional staff will be developed, which contains practical information about UNSW, the ASB, relevant forms and teaching and learning resources. These materials will supplement the School information already provided to sessional staff.

Learning and Teaching related development sessions - To cater for continuing/experienced sessional staff, surveys will be conducted to identify areas in which they would like development sessions to be offered. Sessions will be run either by staff at UNSW or guest lecturers.

UNSW contact: Colina Mason

Targeting generic academic skills support

Starting from Session 2, 2005, EDU Academic Skills Workshops have been targeting generic topics that are relevant across disciplines and courses. In addition, EDU staff continue totarget first year/semester courses and assessments in terms of in-class workshops, drop in sessions, tailored workshops and support resources for both academic staff and students. Other in-class learning support will continue to be offered based upon requests from lecturers.

WebCT Vista and online learning and teaching

The EDU coordinated The Australian School of Business migration to WebCT Vista, and continues to support and be the first point of contact for all online learning and teaching.
