MathStats Support
Many courses in the Australian School of Business require good mathematical and statistical knowledge. The Education Development Unit and the School of Economics offers a variety of services and resources to support student learning in this area, including:

For Postgraduate students

  • Individual consultations with a maths/stats advisor – A qualified Mathematics/Statistics advisor is available to assist you with specific issues or concerns. To make an appointment, contact the Education Development Unit on 9385 5584, email edu@unsw.edu.au or drop in to the Learning Assistance Centre, Room G07, Ground Floor, Australian School of Business Building.
  • ‘Managing Mathematics’ workbook – available from the UNSW bookshop – gives a good review of basic mathematics specifically designed for Business students. The book contains many worked examples as well as problems and solutions.

For Undergraduate students

  • Peer Assisted Support Scheme (PASS) - In this scheme, undergraduate students are encouraged to attend, on a voluntary basis, small study groups which are run by more experienced students. PASS Groups are offered in Microeconomics 1, Macroeconomics 1, Quantitative Methods A (QMA) and B (QMB), Accounting and Financial Management 1A and 1B. For more information, see the Economics and the Accounting web pages.
  • PITSTOP in the School of Economics – an initiative to help students gain more convenient access to individual tutor assistance, students can get help as soon as they run into a problem with their study in the key mathematics and statistics courses offered.. Click here for more information.
